These buildings and tree-lined streets, which were once warehouses and “terra cotta skyscapers” that housed financial institutions, have since become Winnipeg’s cultural hub, blanketed with restaurants, galleries, coffee shops, hip clothing, lifestyle and design stores. It’s also become the home to Winnipeg’s hip businesses including many graphic design and architecture firms, start-ups via Innovation Alley and photography studios, while above the streets many of these older building’s floors have been converted into stylish studio apartments where a lot of the city’s hip set has started to migrate. -

Local Eats
Winnipeg’s tremendous culinary scene continues to catapult itself up and into the national stratosphere, punching well above its weight class. No longer can it be called a burgeoning landscape, as we have moved beyond our fellow Western cities and now compete with established markets like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, entrenched in Canada’s “foodie psyche”. The dozens of nationalities that call Winnipeg home, greatly influence the options available, calling upon the ethnic character that can be found throughout the city. However, in more recent years we have also seen an explosion of talent in our kitchens, with focuses on local, organic and creative achievements the result. Skill and imagination found in other top destinations have made their way to Winnipeg and we all are being rewarded.More Information -

You’ll be met with stunning shots of Winnipeg’s famed architecture, which is a mix of turn of the 19th century, and early 20th century masonry (or, as we like to say, stone skyscrapers) and modern glass buildings. You’ll also be introduced to downtown’s culinary scene, where gourmet sandwiches, food trucks, and handcrafted cocktails are all the rage these days.
Above all, you’ll see the people that make this place so great, like the singer/songwriters on stage at downtown’s many live music venues, the tour guides who can introduce you to landmarks like the much-photographed oculus at the VIA Rail Station, the chefs and shop keepers of the trendy boutiques and restaurants, the vendors at The Forks Market, and our famed Golden Boy, who looks out from his perch on top of the Manitoba Legislative Building. -

Esplanade Riel
This five-metre wide and 250-metre long “people path,” is located north of the junction of the historic Red and Assiniboine Rivers, and provides a link between The Forks and Winnipeg’s French Quarter. The structure, cable-stayed from a single, transversely inclined pylon rising 57 metres above the Red River, reflects the lightweight nature of its pedestrian traffic, while the spire signifies a place of meeting in the middle of the Red River. A historical diorama can be viewed from the bridge. The bridge was named in honour of Louis Riel.
Esplanade Riel is located a short walk from Mere, on the trails through Stephen Juba Park.
